Todays primitives are a continuation of this original North American art form more fondly referred to as “decoys”. The modern primitive is very reminiscent of its historical heritage and pays homage to the traditions of the American Decoy. Defined by simpler shapes and a broader painting style, these carvings are easiest on the eyes and on the budget as they fit into just about any home decor. From an artistic viewpoint they are relaxing and fun to make.
